Adobe Photoshop: How to make a photo look like a Japanese woodblock print?

Q. I am working in Photoshop CS3 and would like to edit a photograph of mine to make it look like a Japanese woodblock print. This would probably involve creating a dark outline around the objects, and flattening planes to make them look more 2D. I'm also interested in trying to replicate the colours. Thanks!

A. There are 2 techniques you can probably use to do this.

The first technique is one that I found on this website. It has info on how to create some dark outlines.

The second technique is by replicating traditional filters. This site has some details.

Creating a realistic Japanese woodblock print out of a photo would be quite tough and requires a lot more work so I wish you all the best of luck!

What adobe program can I use to create an interactive website?
Q. I have an idea to create a website that is interactive. I think I might need to create software but not sure, willing to learn!! An example of what I am interested in would be a list of family birthdays in the left column, and a calendar in the center. I would like the user to be able to drag and drop the birthday to the correct day on the calendar. Is there an adobe program that allows me to create something like this?

A. This is the program:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref%255F%3Dnb%255Fss%255Fgw%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3Ddreamweaver%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps&tag=clogui-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

& get that instructional book along with it.

With Dreamweaver, you will be able to do all those things.

What adobe software can edit videos or movie clips from a camera?
Q. we need to make a movie about Florante and Laura, a famous novel here in the Philippines. What software is best in editing videos from cameras, etc. ?

A. Adobe makes Premiere Pro and Premiere Elements. Elements offers a pretty good feature set for the price.

Beyond Adobe.....

You can also try the free Windows Movie Maker (or whatever it's called in whatever version of Windows you have). On a Mac, there's iMovie.

There are also programs that are free or open-source, but are still in development and might not work very well - VideoLAN Movie Creator (VLMC) and Lightworks.

Beyond that, you can look at lower-end programs like Corel/Ulead VideoStudio, Pinnacle Studio, and some entry-level versions of Sony Vegas.

Avid Studio is coming out as an available download on March 8th. Avid makes arguably the best editing platform in the business (Media Composer), and Studio will be a new thing for them in the lower, entry-level end. They'll definitely be worth a look.

Many companies also offer academic discounts! Here in the US, you have sites like specialtyvideosupply.com and journeyed.com - I don't know what similar sites you have in the Philippines, but look for them! Student discounts are often really great deals if you're a student or educator.
